Craig Weiss, PhD, research associate professor of physiology, is the director of the BPC. Dr. Weiss is a behavioral neuroscientist with extensive experience using mice and rats. Dr. Weiss directs an NINDS supported research program focusing on the role of the prefrontal cortex and thalamus during eyeblink conditioning in rabbits. He is available to help design behavioral experiments, interpret the data collected by the BPC, supervise the Core technician, and supervise and/or train laboratory personnel using the facility.

John Disterhoft, PhD, Ernest J. and Hattie H. Magerstadt Memorial Research Professor, Department of Physiology is the executive director of the BPC. Dr. Disterhoft directs an internationally recognized, NIA- and NIMH supported research program focusing on the mechanisms of associative learning in young and aging hippocampus. He is the recipient of a MERIT award from the NIA to support this research program that focuses on alterations in slow outward potassium currents in aging and in learning. In recent years, he has expanded his work in aging to an examination of behavioral and biophysical changes demonstrated in transgenic mouse models of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Jason Zysk is the BPC’s primary technician and scheduler. He holds a B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Kansas. He can provide lab members the training needed to use the equipment and with the collection of data.
